The First Minister has committed to change the ‘beliefs and behaviour of the white majority’ in Wales with its Anti Racist Action Plan. It is a simple
and bold statement clearly based on the premise that white citizens in Wales are racist and need to change.
This sort of arrogant, ham-fisted, crude, and clumsy messaging is what everyone increasingly expects from the Welsh Government and its hapless First Minister. Understandably it has generated thousands of responses defending the right of individuals to think and say what they want and without government interference and challenging the Welsh governments disregard for the views of those it governs. Of greater stupidity, such statements nudge voters towards REFORM UK when Labour is already facing an existential threat in the 2026 Senedd Elections.
When it comes to race and racism, the Welsh Government has been poorly advised and has displayed a persistent and monumental lack of understanding in the purpose, design and implementation of its Anti Racist Action Plan, which has alienated black and ethnic communities with exception of a few individuals who crave the status of being involved at the expense of their black and ethnic fellow citizens, and white citizens who are active in challenging racism.
The Welsh Government should stop the self-harm it is generating, re-think its approach, suspend the Anti Racist Action Plan until it understands what is really required, and simply stop pumping out indefensible news releases that just make things worse.
